Teaching

Michael Parr is an Associate Professor in the pre-service Teacher Education Program at the Schulich School of Education as well as a full time member of their graduate faculty. His teaching currently focuses on Education and Schooling: History, Law, Philosophy, and how each of these impact issues and challenges facing us as educators in the 21 st Century. He also has a long-standing record of service teaching in-service courses for teachers including Special Education Part 1 and Special Education Part 3 (Specialist).

His current research has three inter-related foci:

Research Studies in Progress

Males Experiences in Entering a Female Dominated Professional Field: A research study exploring the journey of male candidates in training programs traditionally dominated by females - specifically primary/junior level teaching and in nursing.

Meeting the Needs of Aboriginal Students With Special Education Needs: Investigating Apparent Inequities in the Identification and Delivery of Services within a First Nation Community: This research seeks in part to document the experiences of First Nations students, parents, teachers and band council members with special needs students and to explore cultural understandings of learning differences, exceptionalities, and special education among students, parents, teachers and band council members.
